Welcome back all!

It’s been a long time since I’ve written on the blog. To give you a little history, I started writing on a blog in October of 2002. Just to give you an idea of how long ago that was, here’s an idea of what was going on in 2002.

· The Anaheim Angels (note, not the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) beat the San Francisco Giants in the World Series

· Michelle Wie and Freddy Adu were both 13 years old… neither was considered a disappointment

· Kendall Gill, Anthony Peeler, Rod Strickland, and Gary Trent started a combined 108 games for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

· Sweet Home Alabama, The Santa Clause 2, XXX, Scooby Doo, Men in Black 2 and My Big Fat Greek Wedding all grossed over $100 million at the box office.

· Top selling videogames included Madden, Grand Theft Auto, Super Mario, Halo, and Call of Duty (hey, guess not everything has changed!)

· The 10 most popular songs of the year were made by Nickelback, Ashanti, Nelly (twice), The Calling, Vanessa Carlton, Linkin Park, Fat Joe, Usher, and Puddle of Mudd. Does that make you feel like we had horrible taste in music? That hasn’t changed either – the top 100 songs from last year might be worse.

· The iPhone was 5-1/2 years away from release.

· Approximately 1.2% as many text messages were sent in 2002 as today.

· The UFC had a pay-per-view entitled “Brawl at the Hall” in which 3,800 people attended. The last UFC pay-per-view had 17,411 in attendance.

· Brock Lesnar won his first WWE Championship belt.

· Mr. Perfect, Miss Elizabeth, Hawk, Crash Holly, Hercules, Big Bossman, Eddie Guerrero, Johnny Grunge… (big breath!)… Earthquake, Bam Bam Bigelow, Mike Awesome, Sensational Sherri, Chris Benoit, Crush, and Test were all still alive.

Anyway, I don’t think I’m breaking news when I say times are a lot more different that they are today… even more-so that we remember.

Almost done with the nostalgia… promise. A few years ago, I was pretty proud of my website. I consistently wrote 3-4 days a week. I was podcasting in 2005 (granted I only did 2 podcasts!), but my podcasting career pre-dates those of almost any of the podcasts you are listening to right now.

Enough waxing nostalgia!

My goal with the website is to bring it back to something I’m proud of. First of all, if you are here, you obviously can tell that I re-did the look of the site. My goal is to get back on track and update consistently 4 days a week, even if they are shorter updates. Every Friday, I’m going to hit you with a new podcast episode. Instead of talking about whatever, I’m going to be playing some tunes that I like and hopefully you will like. I’ve already got something like 6 episodes in the can, so I’m hoping that will be something that you enjoy. I’m also going to talk about all of the things that interest me. I don’t consider myself the most interesting person in the world, but I’m hoping that I’ll have something to say that you might be interested in hearing. Considering right now, my interests range from golf to marathon running to NBA, NFL, and MLB along with a little UFC, videogames, music, movies, and news, I should have something for everybody.

Anyway, I’m excited to be back in the unpaid “business” of blogging. I’ve got a few special surprises for you, but just to give you a hint at what’s upcoming – let’s just say the Sports Guy isn’t the only person with some decade awards

If you’re out on your bike tonight, do wear white,
-B-
