I'm a big fan technology and more specifically - gadgets. I can also use Google Maps to see where I ran on a map and what the change in altitude was. My phone has a voice recorder, VNC for remote desktop, a virtual bubble level, a tip calculator, a barcode scanner to check prices in store versus online, and a stopwatch. When I go for a run, I've got a GPS watch that tells me how far and how fast I ran. When I fall asleep at night, I put in one headphone and turn my NBA League Pass on my phone on and watch a random NBA basketball game as I fall asleep.
Long story short. I love me some gadgets. I think I have come across the single stupidest gadget (not named the Kindle) of all-time.
Ladies and gentlemen - may I present you the Zeo Personal Sleep Coach. A sleep coach. For $249. Un-freaking-believable. Here's how it works: you put on a headband and lay next to this goofy looking alarm clock. The headband transmits data to the alarm clock and you can track how well you've slept.
Of course, none of this will help you when you die of a brain tumor approximately three months after you start using this thing. As comfortable as I'm sure it is wearing a headband with a computer chip while you sleep, I'll just lay my head on a pillow sans headgear.
If you had sleep apnea or something like that, I get going to the doctor and getting some tests done. If that's not you, though, here's what I suggest. Go to bed earlier. Don't drink so much caffeine or eat a Snickers bar ten minutes you go to bed. Fall asleep watching tv or listening to a podcast to take your mind off of life's ills. If all else fails and you need a good nights sleep, pop an Ambien. But be sure to password protect your Blackberry before you go to bed or you may wind up driving into your neighbors fire hydrant if you have some skeletons in the closet.
This just seems like another example of "us" as a people trying to be too analytical. I can completely see someone stressing out and not having a good sleep simply because their "Sleep Score" wasn't good enough the last few nights. If you've got an extra $250 sitting around, please do me a favor and send them to "Brent Hanson - Personal Sleep Coach." Send me an email and I'll send you an address.
