2010 NBA Mock Draft – I’m not doing a “who are they going to draft” mock draft. Instead, I’m doing a “who should they draft” mock draft. So, ten years from now, I can make fun of myself for some of the bad picks I’ve made. And, of course, pat myself on the back for the one great pick I do. Tomorrow, we've got the top 10.

20) Spurs – Jordan Crawford – The Spurs always make really, really, really good draft picks. In other news, we landed on the moon and Kristin shot JR. To figure out who the Spurs are going to pick, I had to go wild and figure out who’s the most underrated player left. To me, it’s Jordan Crawford. He’s athletic, he can shoot it a bit, and most importantly he can score. The Spurs don’t need a star – they need a role player and Crawford could be that guy.

19) Celtics – Damion Jones – He’d be a good fit on the Celts. As they get older, KG is going to become even more of a part-time player. They could look for a good two-guard to replace Ray Allen or wing to spell Pierce a bit here. Jones would provide a little offensive pep that their second unit doesn’t currently give them right now.

18) Heat – Eric Bledsoe – I’m not wild about Bledsoe, but Jrue Holiday has proven it’s tough to judge point guards who are playing out of position in college. It’s also tough to judge good, but not great players on good team who have been getting maybe a little too much attention all season (see: Mike Conley). As a mid-to-late first rounder, though, he’s worth a luck. I don’t think he’s going to be a star, but at the same time, I don’t see him being a bust, either.

17) Bulls – Daniel Orton – This is a complete question mark pick. The guy didn’t play, didn’t score, and didn’t do much of anything playing behind Patterson and Cousins. It doesn’t necessarily mean he’s not going to be an alright pro. I just don’t like the fact that I can’t think of one guy who played college basketball, but didn’t play. A team with Orton has to expect this is a 3-5 year project at the minimum. Of course, if he’s taken by a team that can afford to be very patient with Orton (a la Kendrick Perkins development with the Celts), they might find a mid-to-late round gem.

16) Wolves – Paul George – What is the big thing the Timberwolves lack from wings? Athleticism and scoring. If we come out of this draft with Wes Johnson and Paul George, we would become a much better team. If we’ve already grabbed Johnson, part of me has a hard time believing we’d grab another wing. But I love the thought of having three long, athletic wings who can score (well, it’s coming with Corey Brewer) alongside a shooter in Ellington and a point guard rotation of Rubio/Flynn in a couple years. It makes a completely inept backcourt much more dangerous.

15) Bucks – Donatas Motiejunas – I don’t think he’s actually going to stay in the draft. Actually, by the time you read this, he may have already pulled out. Unlike almost everyone else in this draft, I haven’t actually seen him play, so I’ve got to depend on what I’ve read. It reads like every European player player… um… ever!?! Big, excellent skills, tons of potential, questionable defensive abilities, and questionable mental toughness.

14) Rockets – Ekpe Udoh – Honestly, this just seems like THE guy that is going to fall to the Rockets. The Rockets have, somewhat quietly, been killing the draft since Daryl Morey took over. In the past three years, they’ve picked up Aaron Brooks at 26, Carl Landry at 31, and Chase Budinger for a future 2nd.

13) Raptors – Avery Bradley – Not sure about this fit for the already defensively inept Raptors. If I was Bradley, I’d actually be hoping to slide down to #17 or #18. Bradley’s lack of height is going to make defending other two’s difficult, but if he could play on a team like Heat or Bulls with a guy like LeBron (possibly) or Wade, it would matter much less.

12) Grizzlies – Ed Davis – This seems to be a nice fit for Ed Davis and a nice fit for the Grizzlies. As a guy who didn’t miss many Carolina games over the last few years, I can’t say that I’ve been overly impressed with Ed Davis. In fact, he’s much higher on many draft boards and I can’t understand, for the life of me, why. He’s going to be a third or fourth fiddle. He was great as a 6th man on the championship team, but this year, when he was given more of a load to shoulder, he didn’t really respond. Of course, I could get into all of my problems with the 2009-10 Tarheels, but I’ll maybe save that for another column.

11) Hornets – Cole Aldrich – This would be a bit of a slip for Aldrich, but he could certainly do worse than winding up with the Hornets. Being a MN kid, there has been some questions of the radio as to whether or not the Wolves would look at Aldrich at #5. In some ways, it wouldn’t be the stupidest thing ever. Our defense is almost as bad as our backcourt and Aldrich projects to be a defensive game changer. Playing alongside Chris Paul and Darren Collison would do wonders for his offensive abilities and playing alongside another shot blocker like Emeka Okafur or an offensive forward like David West would complement the Hornets really well.
