Holy ___
There aren’t that many emails that elicit such a reaction from me. The other day, I got an email about the Rock the Bells festival. I signed up for their emails two years ago year because my favorite band of all-time – A Tribe Called Quest – was playing their festival. I’ve never got to see Tribe in concert, unfortunately, and it’s remained on the short list of things that I *need* to do.
I’d gotten a few emails about the Rock the Bells festival. I was pretty impressed by the lineup of bands that were playing including many favorites that have been featured on Brentnet Radio – Jedi Mind Tricks, Brother Ali, Immortal Technique, Clipes, Murs, DJ Premier and Lauryn Hill (who’s first cd I love, but subsequent Unplugged cd and live concert was an abomination).
This email blew me away, though. The festival is going to feature a lot of classic artists performing classic cds including: KRS-One performing Criminal Minded (nice), Rakim performing Paid in Full (clah-ssic!), and Slick Rick performing The Great Adventures Of (underrated album!)
The next line in the email blew me away. Wu-Tang (minus ODB) is performing “Enter the 36 Chambers). That’s a top 10 cd of all-time for me! Snoop Dogg is performing “Doggystyle” in its entirety. That’s probably my second favorite rap cd of all-time. To top it off, A Tribe Called Quest is performing “Midnight Marauders” in its entirety. That would be “Midnight Marauders” aka my favorite cd of all-time.
This sounds like a once in a lifetime opportunity. When is the last time you’ve heard of a concert that consisted of three of your 10 favorite albums of all-time being played in from track one to the finish. Un-freaking-believable.
Here’s the problem… no show in the Midwest. I’d have to hop a plane an go to either NYC, DC, LA, or San Fran to catch this show. If they added a show in Chicago, I would hop in the car and check this out. Unless I can find a dirt cheap flight and some free time I don’t have, I’m not going to be there.
