Minority Report
A sci-fi thriller about futuristic crime. In the future, "pre cogs" can see the future before it happens, so they use that ability to stop crimes before they occur. Unfortunately for Detective John Anderson, the pre cogs see him committing a murder and he is forced to hide from the police while trying to determine why they think he is going to kill. Spielberg flicks are always great and this one is no exception.

Menace II Society
Caine, along with O-Dog, are two friends who grew up together but are going in completely different directions. Much like Boyz N The Hood, Caine wants to get his life in order and get out of the projects, but O-Dog is in love with the life of crime. Menace is a little more dark than Boyz and Caine isn't as likeable character as Cuba Gooding, Jr, but it's still a great flick nonetheless.

The Sixth Sense
You've heard before that this movie has a great ending and I'll say it again. Bruce Willis is surprisingly great in this dramatic role and Haley Joel Osment does a great job as well. For a child actor, he does play a very uncharacteristic role for a child and he does it convincingly. As sick as I am of the line "I see dead people," it really was pretty creepy when I first saw the movie.

Gladiator
Maximus's family is murdered and he comes to Rome to seek revenge. Besides being my favorite Russell Crowe role, I also really enjoyed Joaquin Phoenix's performance. While I still think a couple other movies were more deserving of Best Picture, this movie definitely didn't win by default. The dramatic scenes are intense and the action scenes are among the best ever captured on film.

Requiem for a Dream
Darren Aronofksy is one of the most visually pleasing directors of all time and he's only made two movies that I've seen. Besides being eye candy, this movie is a disturbing and really eye opening as to what really happens to people who are addicted. Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly, and especially Ellen Burstyn are outstanding. Should be seen by every kid entering high school, in my opinion.

Planet of the Apes (1968)
A group of astronauts crashes on a distant planet that is ruled by apes who use the human's for experiments. Charlton Heston stars as George Taylor, a scientist who is captured by the apes, is determined to escape only to be hunted by Cornelius, the head of the ape scientists. Much better than the remake... if you haven't seen it, give this flick a chance!

Rocky
Probably the ultimate underdog sports movie of all time. Many imitators (including four with the name Rocky) have tried, but in the end failed. Even the making of the story was an underdog story... a no name actor/writer (Stallone) comes out of nowhere and becomes a screen legend.

Office Space
Who hasn't had at least a day or two when your life felt like this movie? This movie beautifully captures the monotony of working at a job you don't necessarily enjoy. I think almost everyone can at least watch this movie and at least be able to relate to certain parts of the movie. If nothing else, it's full of one liners that you can use around the office all the time.

North by Northwest
Hitchcock is the master of suspense and this is one of his crowning moments. Cary Grant starts as Roger O. Thornhill who is mistaken as a spy and chased across the country. The crop duster plane attack that is featured on the cover art is one of my favorite scenes of cinema that happened before my time. A brilliant movie that really withstood the test of time.

Big Fish
Coming out of nowhere for me was this Tim Burton flick. My best "dumbed down description" would be this movie is what would happen if Forrest Gump and the Princess Bride hooked up and had a kid. It has kind of the small town kid with the bigger than life stories from Forrest Gump. It also has the adventure elements of Princess Bride. Good acting by Ewan McGregor makes this something that is definitely worth a watch.
